The seaside town Warnemünde is the northern part of a Hanseatic city Rostock in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. River Varnava flows here into the Baltic Sea. Warnemünde has the largest sandy beach on the German Baltic coast. They are suitable for kite surfing, surfing, windsurfing, diving and swimming. You will find the parish church of St. Nicholas with the three-aisled Romanesque basilica from the second half of the 12th century with frescoes in the apse and with the Way of the Cross by Moritz von Schwind. There is a local history museum and salt museum, Gruttenstein medieval castle from the 12th century, castle Marzoll built around 1527 and the parish church of St. Valentine from the 8th century.
