Lutherstadt Wittenberg is a town in the district Wittenberg in eastern part of German state Saxony-Anhalt. In the city of Wittenberg are plenty of sports facilities that are located throughout the city and the suburbs. These include 20 sports halls, 12 large sports fields, four bowling halls, 10 special sports facilities for shooting, water sports, tennis, rowing and horse riding.
CastleThe castle Wittenberg, with the castle church, is one of the main attractions. Martin Luther, the author of 95 theses, preached there and is buried here. After the destruction of the church and the castle in 1760 and 1814 the castle was used as part of defense and as a barracks.
